BB's Pet Grooming Tip #1

Hi!

My name is BB and my mom Marsha is a professional groomer. Before she started her own business with my dad Rock, she was a vet’s assistant and a vet tech, so she knows what she’s doing. I'm such a lucky American Bull Dog! I get to go with her in our Precious Pets trucks all over the place. I see what she does and I get to meet everybody!

My mom checks my nails every month and trims the hair on the bottom of my pads so they do not get matted. Otherwise my big fat paws get nasty and smelly, and more important, very uncomfortable! EEEEEW! WOOF! My mom has heard horror stories of pups whoss parents did not know how to check their nails and they grew so long that the nails pushed up on their feet and made them sore and caused arthritis!

You know the little dew-claw, the little hangy down claw above the paw usually grows in a circle and can grow back into the flesh and HURT and get infected...ouch!!! My mom grooms my friend Rainbow every month. Rainbow gets very busy inside the bathtub. I walk away ‘cause she tends to splash. I’ll give you another pet grooming tip from my mom next week. I’m off in the truck to meet new friends!

I love your mom and you're cool too! Sorry I splash you inside the truck. I don't mean it, I'm just, like your mom says..."Well, busy!"

Wished we lived in FL, then we could all be friends getting the spa treatment together! I splash too, but Bubba loves baths! I don't understand why we need baths, I'll just roll in the yard again! ~Gabbi

Oh Gabbi my mom has a moving spa! And you and Bubba shouldn't roll in the yard so much, it makes it more difficult for your mom to groom you and keep you healthy! Don't be bad girls!

Hi BB and BB's mom, i have a

Hi BB and BB's mom, i have a really big problem with my Binx. He will let me give him baths, take any medicine he needs no matter what it is, brush and comb him, anything i need to do for him. The only thing he WILL NOT let me or anyone else do is his nails! When we had them done the last couple times i ended up with scars on my arms and that was with more than one of us trying to do this. I have to have him go to his Doctors this week for a new approach and that is to have the Doctor give him something to relax him enough to do it because his nails are getting long and I know they must be not very comfortable for him! I have tried just rubbing his paws gently a lot to get him used to it, but he will not have any part of it! Do you have any suggestions for me or any idea why he is like this? It makes me really sad that he won't let me do this for him because I always want to do what is the best for him. Thank you!! :) Binx and Susan

My mom says, Why not let the vet trim his nails? She says sometimes we kids are better at obeyind other people than our own parents, and my mom's a pro!
See Binx, if you don't behave your mom will have to give you a little sedative, and you don't want that, do you? That'd be the only alternative.
My mom says, Let the vet do it!

hi there marsha and bb. thank you for getting back to me so quickly. i have had the vet and even a groomer try and do his nails without me in the area and the same thing. i have no clue why he is so freaked out about it, i have never hurt him or anything. i do have an appointment next monday for him to have them done at the dr's office under sedation. it is so sad i think because that is the only thing he will not let me do at all or anyone else for that matter. i just want to make sure that there wasn't anythng that i haven't thought of to try! thanks again!! :) binx and susan
