It's like living in the Wild Kingdom right here in the 'burbs

Well, I hope ya'll will be patient with me. Don't use the computer much, what with my nails being a tad on the long side, so I'm brand new to this blogging thing.

I just have the urge to tell somebody about what's been going on here in Lake Mary. And now that most of my buddies are road kill, well, I'm just hoping to make some new friends.

Let me tell you about my neighborhood. Years ago it was just orange trees and termites. Lots of room for an armadillo to roam. And plenty of romantic places for a young armadillo to get his groove on with the ladies. Not anymore. Way back in the early '90s, they cut down all the orange trees and built houses.

My buddies and I were still here and the termites never left, thank heavens. Lucky for me, they built the houses out of wood, so I still have lots of yummy termites.

Anyway, things were pretty calm over the years, once I got used to big people in big cars and little people riding those 3 wheeled things. Man, can they scream. Like, they've never seen a little, long-clawed, pointy-nosed, armor-covered pre-historic looking dude crossing the street?

Lately, though, things have been getting exciting. I mostly live in the woods, but there's a yard I like to visit a few times of week. There's more critters there than in the woods.

Like this one bird-brain. He thinks he's all studly, cuz he's a young hawk. But what an idiot. The first time he flew into the window, ok. He was after a lizard and didn't realize it was a window. Took him about half an hour to shake that one off!

But then, a week later, the young dude is back and rams the same window. Two weeks later, heard a bit "thud" and yup, there he is, sitting on the fence looking dazed and embarassed. What a bird brain.

Next time I'll tell you about the mice. And squirrels. And snake. Told you it was like living in the Wild Kingdom!

Your hawk may be

Your hawk may be bird-brained, but I see humanoids run into glass windows all the time! What a dense species. I try hard not to snicker when I see it happen...but I can't help myself.

Great blog, Gus! Can't wait to read more...and I certainly hope you make it past the often very short lifespan (aka getting hit by a car).

Btw, is it true that armadillos can stay underwater for 6 minutes??? Wowzers!

Did somebody say hawk?

Did somebody say hawk? Speaking on behalf of the rest of us, I'd just say don't let one dullard taint the whole cast.
